A Corrective Path is a down-up path in the sequence of data modeling activities that happens when, during or at the conclusion of an activity, one or several issues are found that warrant the need to go back to a prior activity. A change of scope, in concept definitions, in data requirements or in the logical data design is found to be needed. One has to retrace back to the affected activity and follow the sequence of activities from that point.
Many things can cause a corrective path to be taken. A common one is a scope change caused by the business adding to the scope or the realization the scope was bigger than anticipated. Scope phase addition or modification is a common change in a DSM. There is no corrective path back to the Data Requirements Reconciliation activity.
One can take a corrective path back to:
- Data Scope Modeling
- Conceptual Data Modeling
- Data Requirements Modeling
- Logical Data Design Modeling
